A leather bit or also a bit lined with leather has the property that the leather will soften due to the saliva in the horse's mouth. The combination of the soft leather with the taste of the leather makes the bit very suitable for horses with sensitive mouths.

The Trust leather bit has a flexible nylon core that moulds better to the horse's mouth and is therefore softer in terms of action.

To maintain a leather bit properly, it is wise to lubricate it regularly with butter which keeps the leather supple and prevents it from drying out.
