We like to give you some tips on how to buy the right girth. First you ask yourself whether you are looking for a dressage girth, all purpose girth or jumping girth which is also called belly flap girth. It is important that a girth fits properly and that you choose the right material for your horse to avoid any nasty scratch wounds. Are you looking for a nice but inexpensive girth than a neoprene girth may perhaps be the best choice. A leather girth of course requires more maintenance but will also breathe better than, for example neoprene. Does your horse quickly suffer from scratcj wounds, then a BR Anatomical lambswool-lined girth can sometimes offer a solution, the medicated wool can often avoid problems with the beautiful anatomic shape. Determining the length of the girth To find the right length of a girth you should know that the lengtj of the girth is measured from buckle to buckle. If you want to measure the size with your horse, you can optionally also use a ribbon or rope by measuring on the saddle from the girth tabs (where you want to attach the girth) to beneath the belly to the other side at the girth tan. When buying a girth with elastic, you need to consider the elastic to give approximately 5 cm of clearance. Fairfax Performance Girth The British dressage team kept the development of this girth secret to stay ahead at the Olympics in 2012. The Fairfax Performance girth is something completely new, never before so much scientific research has been done into the fit and the effect of the girth on horses. The Fairfax Performance girth makes for a huge reduction in the pressure on the horse, a significant improvement in freedom of movement and reduction of asymmetries.
